OAKTREE LEVI
Owened by Steve Wight
http://www.milliron-sranch.com/

Steve just called me back, & he took Levi to go
gather 29 bulls. They just got done and he had
to call to brag. & He loves Doc, but he thinks
Levi is developing into an even nicer, stronger
dog. & He said it was so cool.  He just sat on
grabbing a nose. &nb He said one of the
neighbors was driving by and stopped to
watch. & After he got done and he had done
sooooo good, he turned then back out and let
Levi bring in all 29 again........ :)
The neighbor was pretty amazed :)
CONGRATULATION!

Owened by Steve Knipmeyer

Tom,
No problem for Cap dog.
I forgot to tell you about Sugar several weeks
ago. Have 43 steers in the east pasture
Several had bad eyes needed doctored,
No catch pens in the pasture. So went out on
the 4 wheeler, Sent Sugar out brought the
cattle to The 4 wheeler, drove out the gate
down the Road about 3/8 mile no fence on
one side, into
My pasture an another 1/2 mile to the  Corel.
Had friend on horse back for a backup plan.

His Comment was, you could have taken
them to sonic And had lunch and back with
Sugar behind them. :)

Hi Folks,

If you were not able to be with us this year at the Flying Cow Cattle Trial, then I hope you make a point to join us next year.

This was the largest first year trial that I personally have been involved with. We had roughly 75 dogs, Handlers from 6 states, which brought us a number of National award winners, and
many club champions. Dean Bridges did a wondful job pulling together and hosting his first trial. The handlers were treated to free beans and corn bread. Then on Sunday, Church service was
available to attend. The only disappointing part for me, was that Jack King didn't sing us a little San Antonio Rose from the booth. :)

There are so many people to thank....Tony Little, the Flying Cow arena owner, the Minor family for furnishing the cows and pitching in to do so many other jobs, thanks to all the time booth
workers, to Lois East for handling the entry table & paper work. All of our Sponsors....Victor Dog Foods, Triple 3 Goat Ranch, Glenn Christensen, Dr. Robert Jobe, Tom Hines and Special
thanks to all the Church kids that worked the trial and did a large majority of the boring "grunt" work behind the scenes. It just thrills my heart to see good hard working kids like this, in this
day and times.

I hope you will make it a point to be with us next year, and God willing we can all get together and do it all over again. :)
Thanks!
tom

Mid States Stock Dog Association Cattle Dog Trial
Walker Arena
February 18, 2012
Well some weekends you win, and other weekends you just enjoy everyone around you. We got to see a lot of old friends, and was able to make new friends, which we always enjoy. Ruth's
Brother and sis-law (Roger & Doris Abels) came over to watch, so we had a good visit with them. We took two dogs (Curly & Link) both ran in the Ranch class. Link was 4th, and Curly didn't
make the time line.
Maybe next time. :)

for the kids, and they turn out in good numbers to work THEIR trial.
KING FAMILY CATTLE DOG TRIAL
April 21st and 22nd
CENTERTON, AR. 72719
None could have been happier, than Tom and I, to see Jack King be able to come back and host a cattle dog trail
this year!  As usual, the King family and friends did a wonderful job setting out cattle, exhausting.  Getting
everything ready that has to be done to put on a good trial. The Midstates stock dog club helped with the timing,
scoring and entry table. Jack's brother was the general announcer and did a great job of keeping the handlers ready
to go for their runs. Jack's family and friends put together an awesome 'feed' that evening, so we all went back to
the motel, with our bellies full and ready to get some rest and come back for another enjoyable day on Sunday.
Thanks so much for a great trial Jack!! We appreciate you!

The Minor Family would like to sent out the deepest heartfelt  sincere thank you to all handlers, dogs, supporters, helpers and donators for making this trial the biggest ever at Duckhead. In our
wildest dreams we could not have imagine this trial growing to where it have become an overwhelming success. It is because the support of all that participated; great people, great dogs, great
handlers, great helpers and  a great team put together,(Lois, Lyle, Twila, David, Myra, Randy, Tom, Ruth, AJ and Wanda). It is because of all of you, is why my family truly enjoys what we do.
My family was truly blessed to have been, just a little part of the dog handlers community. Again, we would like to thank everyone who supported our trial. The trial would not have been so

Hope to see you here again this fall.

OAKTREE ROSE
Owner/Handler: Robin Abbott of MI
OAKTREE ROSE daughter of the great OAKTREE JACK & OAKTREE BETH a  granddaughter of LONERIDER ODIE.
Bred by TOM & RUTH HINES OF OAKTREEBC!
"   .
TATE'S TRUE
10/02/2000 - 7/15/2012
TRUE, has had a bad leg for the past few years, causing him to stop breeding, and making him hobbling around. Then last Friday Ruth couldn't call him out of his pen. He
still like to try to run and play with the other dogs, so I thought he had just over done it, so we started giving him pain meds, but after watching him Saturday & Sunday,
and after much discussion we decided to stop so last night we had the Vet stop his pain.
I never saw a Border Collie any tougher or harder biting than True. I have never seen any bred with a higher pain tolerance than True. When John Tate use to trial him, I
would tell John that he name him wrong. Should have been "Timex - he takes a licking and keeps on ticking." :)

"THAT''LL DO TRUE"
Heritage Days Stockdog "Open" Trial
Oaktree dogs placed First and Second out of 80 dogs…….
Oaktree Doc (Jack x Blaze) was 1st & Oaktree Levi (Cap x Calli) was 2nd. Five head of really really rank cattle, right off the range…. 500-600 pounds
Steve Wight -Owner/Handler said, Doc had to bite about 30 times to get them under control…..but once he got the dog broke…..they got it done.
On Levi, he had one that just didn't want to stay with the group that Levi had a little trouble with at first…..but he stayed right in there and finally
got him under control.
He said, the both worked awesome!!
@@HATSOFF JACK
10/16/2000 - 6/18/2012
Ruth and myself would like to thank everyone for the kind words and calls. It was very unexpected.

Wednesday a week ago, we had Jack out working with a young dog for 3- 5 minutes...... and when he came out of the pen he when to get water and started
staggering like he was drunk and kind of fell down...... we just thought we had worked him to hard for the heat, got him cooled down and he seemed fine. then this
past Thursday, when Ruth let all the dogs out to potty after she got home from work, he did it again.....I had Ruth call the vet and she took him in Friday morning.
They ran bloodwork, ekgs, heart monitor....checked him for everything......his heart rate and blood pressure was really low and his blood sugar was really low,
45.... she was going to do some research and see him again on Monday. We were to feed him every 3 hours and give him honey, etc to try to get his sugar up.
But Saturday morning he had 2 seizures at the house, Ruth got him to the vets and he had 4 more there before they could get it stopped....the vet said it wasn't him
stabilized.
He had a tumor on his pancreas, Insulinomas, that was causing the low blood sugar. We are talking major $$ for a specialist to do surgery, which vet didn't know
if he could survive it...or if he may have already suffered brain damage due to the seizures he had already had.... they pumped him full of glucose (500) and I
way we were going to be able to keep him from going into seizures again......or into coma because of the heart rate going so low.....
so we had to make the hard decision....... :( :(

evaluating the handlers skill level of reading the stock, that was fun :)  Then Lyle worked one on one with the handlers with dog spots, morning and afternoon.
Auditors got to watch and ask taken home ideas and methods to try to improve their handling skills.  We all learned a new way to teach a dog their down.  I
know I'm going to be trying that :)    We had a beautiful day, an awesome chocolate pecan cake.  Sure hit the spot for me :)

Tom & I just want to thank everyone that came.  We appreciated you coming, hope you enjoyed it and learned as much as we did.

And a special thanks to Lyle East for presenting.  Great Job Lyle!

We hope to be able to do this again :)   Ruth

Claremore Dog Expo & Sheepdog Trial
August 25, 2012 7 p.m. -  Claremore, OK
Sanctioned by Oklahoma Stock Dog Association & USBCHA

Thanks so much to everyone who came out and helped with the demos
and trial at Claremore. Your help was so appreciated and I don't think
we could have done it without you! It was a small trial, however we had
some just starting handlers and dogs, and the experience was invaluable
to them I think. It is a great trial to get that first one under your belt and
on to bigger and better things! It was much cooler this year than the last
two years and we even got a little rain. It was in a covered arena so that
was ok too!    Thanks again Susan Bennett

"Oaktree’s Fall Trial was a big success.  The number of entry’s were down, but the quality was up, including former Meeker and National Finals winner Angie Sells.
Watching the runs, ably Judged by Poet Danny Shilling, was rewarding.  The quality of handling goes up every year.

Saturday evening at supper rain put spectators under the big top tent provided by the Hines.  Then after supper and whilst still visiting, a huge wind and rain sent the big
top crashing down, on spectators, tables and chairs.  There will be long debates on who was faster to the house.  Who left first?  Who left last? Who was the Captain and
did he stay with the ship? Everyone agreed, everyone was equally soaked.

Then Sunday broke lovely and new.   Folks all said they’d come back again for sure, even if we darn near got blowed away."
